Transform into a whimsical woodland fairy with this easy DIY Sparkly Clay Fairy Wand Tutorial! Using materials that can be found in your pantry and your craft cabinet, this is the perfect afternoon activity for you and your babe!
Ingredients for Clay
- 1 cup of baking soda
- 1/2 cup of corn starch
- 3/4 cup of warm water
Additional Materials
- Saucepan
- Wooden Spoon
- Cookie Cutters
- Rolling Pin
- Craft Glue
- Sticks (we like to find sticks from our backyard but craft sticks work as well!)
- Glitter, crystal chips, beads, gems, paint, dried flowers — anything to decorate your wands and make them special!

Making the Clay
Step 1: Mix dry ingredients in a cooking pot, and add the water. Stir over medium heat while the mixture bubbles and thickens. Continue stirring as mixture pulls away from the sides of the pot and becomes similar in consistency to thick cake frosting.

Step 2: Remove the pot from the heat and allow the dough to cool until it’s comfortable to handle.
Step 3: Pour the dough out from the pot onto the counter or a cutting board and knead it into a smooth round ball.
You can add glitter during the kneading stage if you wish (we chose to glitter our wands afterward during the decorating stage).

Making the Wands
Step 1: Roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick and use cookie cutters to cut out your wand shapes.

Step 2: Using a stick, push through the bottom of the dough to make a the wand handle.

Step 3: Air dry your ornaments for up to 24 hrs – a warm sunny spot is ideal!
Pro-tip: These Clay Fairy Wands make the perfect Woodland Fairy Birthday Party Craft. Make the wands beforehand and let the babes decorate them before eating cake. While they are eating cake let the wands dry and send them home with them as the party favor!
Step 4: After your wands have dried it’s time to decorate! Brush each wand with some glue and add glitter, beads gems and more!

We used watercolor paints, glitter, crystal chips and dried flowers to decorate our clay shapes. We also added some wool to our wand handles.

About the Creator!
Hi! I’m Simone from Victoria, Australia, and mother of two girls, Cove (4) and Fern (1). My Instagram @dayswithwildflowers is a digital photo album for the girls as well as a creative outlet for me.
I wanted to share a craft activity that my girls absolutely love to do that is simple and given the current situation, the majority of the materials required can be found within the pantry or craft tub at your home. This DIY Sparkly Clay Fairy Wand Tutorial can be done with as little or as much as you like and is extremely versatile i.e. you could skip the step of adding sticks to make wands and they could be clay ornaments instead. I hope you enjoy it!

I’m looking to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a
hard time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique.
P.S My apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!
