Have some fun with your cocoa with these Exploding Peppermint Hot Cocoa Bombs!
What you’ll need:
- Silicone mold
- Spatula
- Hot cocoa mix (we used Starbucks peppermint mix, but your favorite will do!)
- Milk chocolate melting wafers or bark (we used Ghirardelli wafers)
- White chocolate melting wafers or bark (we used Ghirardelli wafers)
- Mini marshmallows (we bought the colored bag and picked out the pink ones)
- Sprinkles
- Soft peppermint candy
How to:
Step 1: Melt // First melt the chocolate wafers by following directions on the bag.
Step 2: Coat // Coat the mold with a thin layer of chocolate (about 1 tbsp) per cavity and be sure the sides are completely covered. Put in the fridge to set for 5 mins and repeat coating the mold 2-3x followed by setting in fridge between each time (anything more than 2-3 coats will be too thick for the milk to penetrate and give the “bomb” effect but too thin will crack while filling so it’s a fine line).
Step 3: Fill & Seal // Take the halves out of the molds. Use a small amount of warm melted chocolate on a plate as a sealer by placing the edge side down into the melted chocolate. With that same half fill it with 1 tbsp of cocoa mix, mini marshmallows, and a few sprinkles and crushed peppermints. Grab the other half of the hot cocoa bombs, melt the edges on the plate and bring the two halves together and press gently.
Step 4: Decorate // Placed the filled and sealed hot cocoa bombs in a muffin pan as a holder to drizzle the top with melted white chocolate wafers, crushed peppermint, and sprinkles!
Step 5: Enjoy // Put your Exploding Peppermint Hot Cocoa Bombs into your favorite holiday mug and pour 8oz of very hot or boiling milk over and watch your hot cocoa bomb burst open!
These hot cocoa bombs are so much fun for the whole family! Your little babes will love making them as much as they love drinking them!
